§ Mr. Ian GilmourThe latest year for which figures are available is 1972 when the proportions of GNP spent on defence were 5.8 per cent., 4.0 per cent., and 4.2 per cent. for the United Kingdom, Federal Republic of Germany and France respectively. Defence expenditure by the Federal Republic of Germany was significantly greater than our own and that of France somewhat less.
