§ Mr. Driberg
asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received from spokesmen of the Sikh community in Great Britain regarding their religious objection to wearing crash helmets; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Peyton
On 12th April last a deputation from the Supreme Council of the Sikhs in the United Kingdom explained to me the difficulties created for them by the new rule on wearing safety helmets. Since then written representations have been 29W received from other Sikh groups. In reply I have explained why I do not feel able to recommend to Parliament that an exception should he made to the new rule for the Sikh community.
