HL Deb 14 June 1973 vol 343 c968WA
LORD DERWENT

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are in a position to make a statement about the future of High Court and Crown Court centres on the North-Eastern Circuit.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

Yes. After consulting local and professional interests, I have decided that, from October 1, 1973, High Court business will be taken at Teesside, in addition to Leeds, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Sheffield. The hearing of civil cases in the High Court at York will be discontinued, although High Court judges will continue to visit York for criminal work. Durham will no longer be visited by High Court judges for either criminal or civil work, but Circuit judges and Recorders will continue to try crime there.

House adjourned at two minutes before eleven o'clock.
