HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 c502W
Mr. Atkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many work permits and vouchers have been issued to EEC nationals, aliens and Commonwealth citizens for the six-month period commencing 1st January 1973; and of these how many have taken up employment in the area of the Greater London Council.

Mr. Dudley Smith

The issue of employment vouchers to Commonwealth citizens and of work permits to EEC nationals ceased on 31st December 1972.

Six hundred and two work permits have been issued to Commonwealth citizens and 5,898 to non-EEC foreigners during the three-month period commencing 1st January 1973. Figures of work permits issued during the six-month period commencing 1st January are not yet available. The figures for the three-month period commencing 1st April 1973 will be put in the Library shortly in accordance with my reply to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Handsworth (Mr. Sydney Chapman) on 29th June.

It is not known how many permit holders have taken up employment in the area of the GLC.
