asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the current estimates of the extent to which notified vacancies registered at employment exchanges understate the demand for labour.

Mr. Dudley Smith

I regret that I have no information on the number of vacancies outstanding on any given date which have not been notified to employment offices or careers offices.

Mr. David Walder

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what is the present number of unfilled vacancies registered in the Longridge employment area; and what was the comparable figure a year ago;

(3) what is the present number of unfilled vacancies registered in the Great Harwood employment area; and what was the comparable figure a year ago;

(4) what is the present number of unfilled vacancies registered in the Clitheroe employment area; and what was the comparable figure a year ago.

Mr. Dudley Smith

Following is the information for employment exchange areas:

Preston (covers Longridge) 1,463 730
