Mr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what percentage of the working population of the Colne Valley constituency is employed in the textile and allied industries;

(2) what percentage of the working population of the Huddersfield employment exchange area is employed in textiles and allied industries.

In June 1971, 30.9 per cent. of employees in the Colne Valley employment exchange area were in textiles. The comparable figure for the Huddersfield area was 26.0 per cent. More up-to-date figures will become available later in the year and I shall write to the hon. Member about them.
