HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 c497W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Attorney-General whether he will make a statement on his official announcement that eight Members were not to be questioned during current investigations; and whether he will cause an investigation to be made to ascertain how and in what way information to the contrary was publicly disclosed.

The Attorney-General

The statement issued on my behalf on 20th July was not as stated by the hon. Member, but was as followsNeither the Attorney-General nor the Director of Public Prosecutions has received any report from the police which would justify the recent rumours concerning arrests of Members of Parliament. Police investigations into all aspects of the Poulson case are continuing and the Attorney-General and the Director of Public Prosecutions expect to be receiving further reports from the police as each stage of the investigation is completed. They have given no special instructions to the police concerning Members of Parliament.

On the second part of the Question an investigation by the Metropolitan Police is in progress and I understand the Director of Public Prosecutions will be reporting to me on the result of that investigation.
