HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 cc436-7W
Mr. Adam Butler

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give further guidance to the Leicestershire County Council to introduce advisory routing for heavy lorries in the county as soon as possible, in order to safeguard lives and buildings in many of the older villages and towns, particularly Market Bosworth.

Mr. Peyton

My Department issued two circulars in December and May on routing lorries. Preparation and implementation of local schemes is a matter for the local authorities concerned, which have been asked to review and report on their plans for dealing with lorries by 1st October.

Mr. Bryant Godman Irvine

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proposals he has to relieve the borough of Rye from the large vehicles and juggernaut lorries coming from the Continent in the near future; and whether these include the possibility of a bypass.

Mr. Peyton

I will write to my hon. Friend.
