HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 c490W
Mr. Costain

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the Fire Precautions (Loans) Act 1973 will be applied to the smaller hotels and boardinghouses.

Mr. R. Carr

I have now made an order applying this Act to hotels and boardinghouses in England and Wales and in Scotland which provide sleeping accommodation for not more than 25 persons, whether guests or staff. From 1st September any person proposing to incur or liable to meet expenditure on such premises in order to comply with the requirements of the fire authority under the Fire Precautions Act 1971 may apply for a loan to the local authority in whose area the premises are situated. Such loans are at the discretion of the local authority and are intended only for those who are unable to meet the expenditure in some other way.
