§ Mr. Bishopasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what matters he has referred to the Council of Engineering Institutions (CEI) in relation to the registration of engineers; what progress has been made; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Michael HeseltineI have asked the Council of Engineering Institutions as a matter of urgency to produce a formula which would allow suitably qualified engineers who are not members of existing constituent institutions of CEI to apply for registration by the Engineers Registration Board.
I cannot yet make a statement but I am hopeful that the discussions which I have had with the CEI will result in a satisfactory solution.
