HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 c492W
Sir B. Rhys Williams

asked the Minister of State for Defence how many drill halls there were available to the Territorial Army in October 1964; how many are now available to the Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve; and what has happened to those no longer available.

Mr. Blaker

Rather more than 1,300 drill halls were available to the Territorial Army in October 1964. About 460 are in use by the Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve today. About 590 have been sold, and 215 have been disposed of in other ways, including return to their owners, transfer to the Regular Forces or other Government Departments and allocation for exclusive use by the Army Cadet Force. Less than 50 are awaiting disposal or have been authorised for temporary retention.
