asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will consider introducing legislation to ensure that planning application is made before demolition of any building can take place.

Representations have been made to me that demolition should be brought under full planning control and we are ready to consult interested representative bodies concerning such a change. The Town and Country Planning (Amendment) Act 1972 already enables control over demolition to be exercised by a local planning authority in a conservation area.
