HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 cc497-8W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Attorney-General on what date he was first approached requesting legal action to be taken against firms for dumping cyanide waste in the Midlands; if he will outline the steps taken between then and 16th July, when he informed the hon. Member for West Ham, North that no action would be taken; and whether he will place in the House of Commons Library all relevant papers connected with the inquiry into this matter.

The Attorney-General

I was first approached on 23rd May 1973. Between that date and 16th July the Director of Public Prosecutions, at my request, gave further consideration to the case. This necessitated the scrutiny of a large number of documents. He also attended two consultations with me. It is not the practice to place in the House of Commons Library papers relating to an investigation into possible criminal offences.
