HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 cc373-4W
Mr. Fowler

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will list the 1972 figures for the following categories of crimes: murder, where the victim was aged one year or over, and attempted murder; wounding or other act endangering life; rape; robbery or assault with intent to rob; burglary, where the value of goods stolen exceeded £5; and theft, where the value of goods stolen exceeded £10.

Mr. Carlisle

The latest corrected figure for offences of murder known to the police in England and Wales in 1972 is 149; in 145 cases the victims were aged one year or over.

The figures for offences of theft where the value of goods stolen exceeds £10 are not recorded separately. Figures for theft involving goods valued at over £5, together with the remainder of the information, will be published about the end of August in the Criminal Statistics for England and Wales for 1972.

Mr. David Walder

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he expects to publish the Criminal Statistics for 1972.

Mr. R. Carr

I regret that it has not proved practicable to publish the Criminal Statistics for 1972 before the House rises for the Summer Recess. They will be published about the end of August.
