HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 cc360-1W
Mr. Warren

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will produce a report on the impact of a Channel Tunnel on the road and rail communications of East Sussex, stating what improvements will be required to cope with the additional traffic.

Mr. Peyton

The main impact would be a reduction in the cross-Channel traffic to Newhaven, most of which might be expected to use the M25/M20 route. Any impact on east-west traffic through the county would be taken into account in the current feasibility study for improvement of the Brighton/Dover route. Rail services in the county are not expected to be affected.
