asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects to publish the names of those persons he intends to appoint to regional water authorities.

I hope to announce the names shortly.

Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the names of the persons he has designated as future chairmen of the proposed regional water authorities together with their relevant qualifications or experience.

I informed the House of the names of the chairmen designate on 10th July. The other information is as follows:

Thames Water Authority, Mr. P. B. Black, JP, company director, member of GLC, member Port of London Authority, member of Thames Conservancy, member of Metropolitan Water Board, member of Working Party on Sewage Disposal;

Southern Water Authority, Mr. A. H. M. Smyth, MA, present Clerk of Hampshire County Council, and Clerk of Hampshire Rivet Authority;

Wessex Water Authority, Sir John Wills, Bt, TD, FRICS, JP, DL, Deputy Chairman Bristol Waterworks Company, member of Somerset County Council;

North West Water Authority, Mr. P. J. Lifdell, DSC, Chairman Cumberland River Authority, Chairman Association of River Authorities, Chairman Northern Sports Council, member of Inland Waterways Amenity Advisory Council;
