§ Mr. William Priceasked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the current position over the proposed Milling Machine Regulations to be made under the Factories Act 1961; and when work on this code commenced.
§ Mr. Dudley SmithThe statutory draft of these regulations issued last year has attracted a number of comments and objections. These are being considered. The first preliminary draft was issued in 1959. Work had to be suspended in 1967 to permit the preparation of other regulations of greater urgency. The guarding of cutters of milling machines is already covered by legislation and the main purpose of the proposed regulations is to remove certain anomalies in the existing requirements.
§ Eye Protection Mr. William Priceasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he now proposes to issue a further draft of the Protection of Eyes Regulations, or if he is considering a public inquiry under the Factories Act 1961; and when work on the revision of the 1938 code of regulations commenced.
§ Mr. Dudley SmithIt has unfortunately proved impossible to reconcile the differing views of interested organisations on the second statutory draft of these regulations. Courses of further action are now being considered. The preliminary draft of the regulations was first issued in 1965.
