§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the aggregate percentage of persons in Great Britain who are living at a housing density greater than 1.5 persons per room; and what are the equivalent figures for EEC countries and other countries in Europe, and also United States of America and Japan.
§ Mr. ChannonIn the 1971 Census, 1.8 per cent. of private households in Great Britain were living at a density of over 1.5 persons per room; these households contained 3.8 per cent. of all people in private households. Figures available for other countries are generally percentages of dwellings occupied at a density of 1.5 persons or more per room, 221W extracted from censuses. They are not on a common basis principally because of differences over the inclusion of kitchens in the count of rooms.
