asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will make a statement on the future of emergency and accident hospital facilities for the West Midlands.

Responsibility for the planning of accident and emergency services for the West Midlands rests with the Birmingham Regional Hospital Board, whose policies are in line with the recommendations contained in the report of the sub-committee of the Central Health Services Council Standing Advisory Committee on Accident and Emergency Services. I am sending the hon. Member a copy of this report.
