HC Deb 30 January 1973 vol 849 c367W
Mr. Fitt

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he is satisfied that there is adequate land available for industrial development in the West Belfast area; and if, in view of the total number of unemployed, he is prepared to sponsor state industry for this area.

Mr. David Howell

We are making every effort to supplement the land available for new industry in West Belfast. I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave on 9th November 1972 in reply to a question from the hon. Member for Belfast, North (Mr. Stratton Mills). I appreciate the serious unemployment position and am willing to examine any scheme for development in the area. I do not think that the solution lies in the assumption by the Government of the direct entrepreneurial role in industrial projects.—[Vol. 845. c226–7.]
