§ Mr. Ralph Howellasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that a man with a wife and two children under 11 years of age whose weekly 345W wage is £30 a week has £2.15 more spending power in the first weeks of unemployment than when at work and that this can occur for 14 weeks per year; and what steps he will take to rectify this situation prior to the introduction of a tax credit system.
