§ Mr. Neaveasked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what are his proposals for the future organisation and direction of the Biomedical Research and Development Unit at Roehampton;
(2) if he will make a statement on the discussions between the committee under chairmanship of Professor Kay and the Medical Research Council on the future co-ordination and development of research into improvements in the design and fitting of artificial limbs.
§ Mr. AlisonInformal discussions examining the possible ways of co-ordinating artificial limb research, and expanding clinical activity in this area, are300W progressing but are not yet completed. They necessarily include consideration of the future role of the Biomechanical Research and Development Unit. I am anxious that the arrangements finally agreed upon by all concerned shall be the best possible and detailed investigation of the principles and practicalities is necessary. A statement at this time would be premature.
§ Mr. Neaveasked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he expects to publish the report of the Kay Committee into research work on artificial limbs in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. AlisonDistribution of the report has already started and I am sending my hon. Friend a copy.
