§ Mr. CarlisleThe main defence against violent crime is the preventive and detective role of the police, and my right hon. Friend continues to pay close attention to the development of their strength and efficiency. He is studying the results of a recently completed review of the present arrangements for control of all kinds of firearms. The Criminal Law Revision Committee is reviewing the law relating to offences against the person, and other relevant studies are also being carried out.
