HC Deb 14 February 1973 vol 850 c355W
Sir J. Gilmour

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of the number of sheep which will now be exported as carcases from Scotland in place of export as live animals as occurred last year; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

I cannot make any reliable estimate of the likely demand for sheep carcases from Scotland in place of the export of live animals for slaughter, all of which have hitherto been sent from English ports. This depends on a number of factors such as the willingness of the Continental buyer to take sheep carcases and the availability of alternative sources of supply.
