HC Deb 14 February 1973 vol 850 c364W
Miss Quennell

asked the Attorney-General if he will list those counties in England for which the Land Registry will not register titles to property; and if he will explain why.

The Attorney-General

Save in special cases—for example, building estates and where deeds are lost—the Land Registry will not accept applications for first registration of title to land situated outside areas where registration is compulsory. These are listed in the Land Registry's explanatory leaflet No. 9. Voluntary registration in non-compulsory areas was suspended by the Land Registration Act 1966 so as to concentrate the Land Registry's available resources upon existing—and future—compulsory areas.
