§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what information required by Directive 72/221/EEC of 6th June 1972 is not already collected by his Department; and what is his estimate of the additional cost of providing this information for the purposes of the directive.
§ Sir G. HoweTo meet the requirements of the directive, the following additional information will be sought on the questionnaires for the annual censuses of production:—
- remuneration paid to outworkers*†
- social security charges*‡
- value added tax‡
- local authority rates*‡
- cost of non-industrial services*‡

The directive will require questionnaires to be sent to establishments employing between 20 and 24 people. Most establishments of this size have previously been exempted from the annual censuses and about 7,000 additional establishments will receive questionnaires. A precise estimate of the additional cost cannot be made.
