§ Mr Biffen
asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list the amount by which he plans to reduce expenditure for 1974–75 and in the balance of the current year as a result of the statement by the Chancellor of the
Capital £m. at 1973 Current Survey Prices Total Programme 4—Trade, Industry and Employment … … 7.4 7.5 14.9 Programme 5—nationalised industries: British Steel Corporation … … 67.0 — 67.0 British Airways Board … … 25.0 — 25.0 British Airports Authority … … 5.0 — 5.0 Programme 6—Roads and Transport … … 6.4 0.3 6.7 Total … … 110.8 7.8 118.6
The allocation of the cuts within individual programmes is still under consideration.
The saving which will be made in the remainder of 1973/74 as a consequence of action to reduce expenditure next year will depend to a large extent upon the precise way in which the 1974–75 reductions are arranged. I cannot at present give a figure for the reduction in spending this year which will arise on this account.
