Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list each of the fringe benefits available to miners.

Mr. Emery

I have been asked to reply.

In addition to paid holidays and rest days, fringe benefits available to mineworkers are as follows: Sick pay in addition to state benefits. Pensions. Lump sum payments on age or incapacity retirement. Concessionary fuel. Special rents or rent allowances (in certain circumstances). Subsidised canteens. Subsidised travel to work. Hand tools at cost. Protective clothing free or at cost. Special Government arrangements for compensation on redundancy.

The Chairman of the National Coal Board will be ready to provide any detailed information required by my hon. Friend.
