Mr. Gurden

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what was the average number of Commonwealth immigrants admitted into the United Kingdom during the years 1964 to 1969, inclusive ; and what is the average for 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973 in the latest available figures ;

(2) how many Commonwealth immigrants have been admitted into the United Kingdom during 1973.

The numbers who arrived for settlement in 1964–69 and 1970–72, with annual averages, are as follows :

In the first nine months of 1973, 13,615 Commonwealth citizens and 6,644 United Kingdom passport holders were admitted for settlement.
