HC Deb 04 December 1973 vol 865 c358W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what discussions he had with representatives of the National Federation of Sub-Postmasters or any other organisation representing Post Office workers before starting the issuing of petrol rationing books ; and why he chose a Thursday as the day to commence this issue.

Mr. Tom Boardman

Advance consultations with its staff on the issue of coupons were a matter for the Post Office. I understand the National Federation of Sub-Postmasters was one of three bodies with which the arrangements were discussed. The starting date was selected by the Government as the most convenient to our purpose and was accepted by the Post Office.
