Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will list the cut-back in educational projects, including school building and extensions, in Nottinghamshire due to the recent three months' moratorium on school building ; what has been the effect, including the number of school places affected ; and what discussions she has had with the Nottinghamshire Local Education Committee and other authorities on these matters.

As announced in Circular 12/73, the Government's intention is that programmes should be phased forward by not giving final approval to building projects between 8th October and the end of 1973. The result is that a number of projects will not be able to start till approvals are resumed. Three projects in Nottinghamshire, at Sutton in Ash-field, Keyworth and East Retford, to provide a total of 870 school places, come into this category. Arrangements for the resumption of approvals will be announced in the near future. In the meantime discussions between officials of
