HC Deb 04 December 1973 vol 865 c340W
Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the estimated current production cost of beef (a) in Wales and (b) in England.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

No official estimates of the comparative production costs of beef in England and Wales are available, but the hon. Member may care to refer to a recent publication by the University of Newcastle* which compares production costs of beef cattle on hill farms in the North of England and Wales in 1968–69 and 1969–70. * Hill and Upland Beef Herds ; an economic analysis of mainly single suckled calf production in the hill and upland areas of the North of England and Wales (University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne ; Agricultural Enterprise Studies in England and Wales, Economic Report No. 22).
