HC Deb 10 April 1973 vol 854 c251W
Mr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what use is made by his Department of the Ordnance Survey 2½ inches-to-the-mile maps; and if he considers that satisfactory alternatives to these maps are available for the purposes for which they are currently used.

Mr. Emery

These particular maps are used by my Department for:

  1. (a) applications under the Petroleum (Production) Regulations 1966, for petroleum production, petroleum exploration or methane drainage licences; and
  2. (b) the Department's records of the Government oil pipeline system.

Until the Department of the Environment and the Ordnance Survey complete their review of the use made by the public sector of these maps, the question of alternatives does not arise.
