§ Mr. Anthony StodartThere are some 140 slaughterhouses within 20 miles of the South Coast, two of which—at Fareham and Hastings—are approved for export. Approval of the others would depend largely on the owners' willingness to incur the expenditure to meet the structural and equipment requirements for export purposes. However, refrigerated transport122W renders proximity to the coast relatively unimportant and all 41 of the export approved slaughterhouses in England and Wales are able to slaughter for the Continent.
