§ Mr. Greville Jannerasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make representations to the Soviet authorities concerning their continued refusal to permit Academician Benjamin Levich to leave the Soviet Union so as to take up a teaching post in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. AmeryI understand that Academician Levich is well known in academic circles in this country. If he were to apply for a visa to enable him to take up a post in the United Kingdom, his application would be given sympathetic consideration. But, as the hon. and learned Gentleman knows, we have no standing to make representations in these matters to the Soviet authorities.
