HC Deb 25 October 1972 vol 843 c328W
30. Mr. Sydney Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the new parliamentary building with particular reference to estimates of time between a decision to proceed, the commencement of work and its completion.

Mr. Amory

Until the House has decided on the design of its new building and the Services Committee has settled details of the accommodation to be provided in it, my right hon. Friend can make no firm predictions. But if he receives adequate instructions by the end of this year demolition work could begin next year. It would then be possible to complete the building in 1978 as forecast earlier.
