HC Deb 25 October 1972 vol 843 c328W
33. Mr. Normanton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is aware of the need for a motorway link across the Pennines to join Merseyside with the Humber; and what action his Department is taking to meet this requirement.

Mr. Speed

The M62 Lancashire—Yorkshire motorway will provide a very effective link between Merseyside and Humberside. Over 50 miles of the 100-mile motorway are already open and the full route will be completed during 1975. A scheme for a new major trans-Pennine route from Sheffield to Manchester was included in the Trunk Road Preparation Pool in August.
