HC Deb 25 October 1972 vol 843 cc311-2W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take immediate action to assist landowners in Bedfordshire in combating Dutch elm disease, in view of the fact that they find it too expensive to fell affected trees at their own expense and that there is no market for the timber to offset the cost, as explained in the letter sent to him by the hon. Member for Bedford.

Mr. Bishop

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what assessment he has now made of the extent of Dutch elm disease; and what advice he has given to local authorities regarding measures to control it.

Mr. Peter Mills

I have nothing to add to the answer I gave my hon. Friend the Member for Petersfield (Miss Quennell) on 20th October, 1972.—[Vol. 843, c. 161–2.]
