Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what amount was given by his Department in 1971 for the establishment and running of pre-school playgroups in Nottinghamshire; and what plans he has for the expansion of this service in the current year and in the future.

Mr. Alison

My Department made no direct financial contribution in 1971 towards pre-school playgroups in Nottinghamshire, but applications under the most recent phase of the Urban Programme are currently being considered.
