HC Deb 24 October 1972 vol 843 c217W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations have been made to him regarding the retention of the present system of duty-free alcohol and goods being made available to travellers after Great Britain's entry into the European Economic Community; and what replies he has sent.

Mr. Higgins

Customs and Excise has consulted representatives of shipping, airline, and airport operators, and ships' store suppliers, about this matter, and my colleagues and I have received correspondence from hon. Members on behalf of individuals and firms. With regard to the second question, I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given to the Member for Birmingham, Handsworth (Mr. Sydney Chapman) on 17th October. —[Vol. 843, c. 3.]
