§ 21. Mr. Parkerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he 74W will initiate legislation for the repeal of Section 2 of the Redundant Churches and other Religious Buildings Act, 1969, to ensure that such buildings can no longer be demolished without listed buildings consent.
§ Mr. AmeryNo. The exemption of historic churches from control over demolition is part of an arrangement which goes back to 1913, under which historic churches do not receive State aid. It would be premature to review this at this stage. Discussions are, however, beginning with the church authorities on State aid for historic churches.
