§ Mr. Robert Cookeasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what sums have been paid in grants on the recommendation of the Historic Buildings Councils towards the restoration of Victorian buildings in recent years.
§ Mr. ChannonSince the only criterion for judging if a building is eligible for grant is its historic and architectural interest, the Department's records of grants paid do not distinguish between Victorian buildings or buildings substantially altered in Victorian times and the remainder, and the information requested cannot be provided without an unjustifiable expenditure of time and labour.
Grants made on the recommendations of the Historic Buildings Councils for Scotland and Wales are matters for my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland and Wales respectively.
