§ Mr. Eldon GriffithsNo. Coalite plants were scheduled under the Alkali &c. Works Regulation Act, 1906, in 1958, since when considerable progress has been made in reducing smoke, fumes and smell from the process. Her Majesty's Alkali and Clean Air Inspectorate keep a close watch on these plants and ensure that emissions are kept to a practical minimum.
