HC Deb 24 May 1972 vol 837 c377W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has yet reached a decision on the desirability of paying a salary to the regional and district councillors following the implementation of the new local government structure.

Mr. Younger

We do not consider that payment of a salary would be appropriate: but the new system of allowances we intend to introduce will ensure that councillors are properly recompensed for their services.
