§ Mr. Burdenasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what 214W steps he is taking to ensure the eradication of salmonellae from poultry.
§ Mr. Peter MillsBecause of the widespread occurrence of salmonellae organisms their eradication in any species is impracticable. But precautions are already taken by many rearers and breeders under the voluntary Poultry Health Scheme; and my right hon. Friend is currently considering what can be done to eliminate the risk of infection from feedingstuffs. The Agriculture (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill will give powers to monitor the incidence of salmonellosis in livestock and to take action against outbreaks which might endanger public health.
