§ 29. Mr. Charles R. Morrisasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she is satisfied with the adequacy of provision of nursery education in the City of Manchester; and if she will make a statement.
§ Mr. van Straubenzee:In January, 1972, there were 5,170 children, equivalent to nearly 30 per cent. of the combined 3- and 4-year-old age groups, in nursery schools and classes in Manchester. Although this proportion is several times the national average, my right hon. 403W Friend would like to see it increased when resources allow.
