§ Mr. Redmondasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department to what extent he intends to make use of his powers under Section 12(1)(e) of the Fire Precautions Act, 1971 to insist upon the use of fire proof furnishing materials in certain buildings where the fire risk is high.
§ Mr. Lane:The principal instrument of control under the Act is the fire certificate, by means of which fire authorities may impose such requirements relating to furnishing materials as are appropriate in particular cases. The need for regulations embodying general fire service practice in this matter will be determined in the light of experience.
