HC Deb 09 May 1972 vol 836 cc301-2W
29. Mr. Luce

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many mentally sick people are discharged from special psychiatric and other hospitals without receiving after-care services.

Sir K. Joseph

In 1970, the latest year for which information is at present available, more than 90 per cent. of hospital patients treated for mental illness were recommended for some form of aftercare. Recommendations for after-care other than as outpatient or day patient are referred to the family doctor or local authority social services department.
