HC Deb 09 May 1972 vol 836 c312W
72. Mr. Whitehead

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will end the practice by which junior hospital doctors are requested to devote part of their time to the private patients of consultants.

Sir K. Joseph

The services of junior hospital doctors, as employees of the hospital authority concerned, are among those which may be made available for private patients treated in National Health Service Hospitals. They are covered by the hospital charges which such patients pay. I do not intend to alter these arrangements.
