HC Deb 09 May 1972 vol 836 c316W
Mr. Hunt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many geriatric beds are available in the area covered by the Bromley Group Hospital Management Committee; whether he is satisfied that this number is adequate to meet current demands; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alison

There are 279 geriatric beds serving the Bromley Group Hospital Management Committee area; of these 109 are in hospitals administered by the adjoining Cray Valley Hospital Group. The total compares with a theoretical requirement of 250 beds derived from my Department's recommended planning norm of 10 beds per 1,000 elderly population. The regional hospital board is satisfied that an adequate service is being provided.
